Ardnamurchan Distillery - Whisky at the Edge of Scotland

Few distilleries feel as remote, or as rewarding to reach, as Ardnamurchan. Located on the rugged Ardnamurchan Peninsula along Scotland’s wild west coast, this is a distillery that truly earns its sense of place.

Getting there is no small feat. Our own journey involved two ferries and a drive through some of the roughest, most remote terrain in Scotland, the kind of trip that reminds you just how untamed parts of this country still are. But arriving early for a 10 AM tour, surrounded by dramatic coastline and total quiet, made it clear: this is whisky-making on the edge.

Founded in 2014 by Adelphi, a respected independent bottler, Ardnamurchan was built with a focus on sustainability and transparency. The distillery is powered by renewable energy, including a hydroelectric generator and biomass boiler, and every bottle features a detailed QR code tracing the whisky from barley to bottle.

Ardnamurchan produces both peated and unpeated spirit, often blending the two to create a balanced house style that reflects its coastal environment. The result is a whisky that combines gentle smoke, maritime influence, and bright citrus notes, with a texture and depth that belie its young age.

Despite being a relatively new distillery, Ardnamurchan has already earned a loyal following among enthusiasts, thanks in part to its thoughtful approach to cask selection and its commitment to quality from day one.
