Torabhaig Distillery

Torabhaig Distillery

For nearly two centuries, Talisker held the distinction of being the Isle of Skye’s sole distillery. That changed in 2014 with the groundbreaking of Torabhaig Distillery on the Sleat Peninsula, culminating with its completion in 2017. Although the project was initially greenlit back in 2002 by visionary Sir Iain Noble, it was Mossburn Distillers who ultimately brought it to life following Noble’s passing. Today, under Mossburn’s guidance, Torabhaig proudly operates as a small, independent distillery.

In 2021, Torabhaig released its first single malt whisky, marking an exciting new voice in the world of Scotch. Crafted in a peated island style, the whisky carries a distinctive maritime character, echoing the rugged beauty of its surroundings. Torabhaig describes their approach as "smoke with taste"—a balance of complexity, depth, and drinkability that has quickly gained attention among whisky enthusiasts.

Located on the stunning Isle of Skye, Torabhaig is nestled in Scotland’s most accessible island destinations—easily reached via the bridge connecting Skye to the mainland. Visitors to the island are treated to breathtaking landscapes, from the Fairy Pools, the colored houses of Portree, Old Man of Storr, the dramatic drop of Kilt Rock, and even the chance to spot ancient dinosaur footprints. A wander through the whimsical Fairy Glen rounds out the adventure.

No trip to Skye, however, is complete without a stop at its newest whisky destination. The Torabhaig visitor center welcomes guests with tours, tastings, and a chance to experience firsthand the craftsmanship behind this rising star in Scotch whisky.

For such a young distillery, Torabhaig is already making a name for itself, setting a bold tone as it defines its house style. We’re proud to offer this independently bottled expression —one of the first Torabhaig releases to reach the United States.
