Torabhaig Distillery - Skye’s New Voice

For nearly two centuries, Talisker held the distinction of being the Isle of Skye’s only distillery. That changed in 2014 with the groundbreaking of Torabhaig Distillery on the Sleat Peninsula, culminating in its completion in 2017.

Although the project was originally envisioned in 2002 by Sir Iain Noble, it was Mossburn Distillers who ultimately brought Torabhaig to life following Noble’s passing. Today, under Mossburn’s guidance, Torabhaig stands proudly as a small, independent distillery, carrying forward a bold new chapter in Skye’s whisky story.

In 2021, Torabhaig released its first single malt Scotch whisky, marking the arrival of a compelling new voice in the category. Crafted in a peated island style, the whisky delivers a distinctive maritime character shaped by its rugged coastal surroundings. Torabhaig describes its philosophy as “smoke with taste," a careful balance of peat, complexity, and drinkability that has quickly captured the attention of whisky enthusiasts.

Located on the breathtaking Isle of Skye, Torabhaig sits on one of Scotland’s most accessible islands, connected to the mainland by bridge. A visit to Skye offers no shortage of natural wonders, from the Fairy Pools and the colorful harbor town of Portree to the towering Old Man of Storr and the dramatic cliffs of Kilt Rock. Even dinosaur footprints can be found along its shores, while a wander through the whimsical Fairy Glen rounds out the adventure.
