About Balmenach Distillery

The Balmenach Distillery is a traditional Speyside distillery, about as traditional as they come. Small stills, wooden washbacks and worm tubs still dominate the site; there has been little change to the age-old traditions carried out here over the years.

Located near the village of Cromdale in southern Speyside, Balmenach traces its roots to a license procured in 1824 after the farmer who was allegedly just housing a ‘peat shed’ on his farm was encouraged by the tax man to get a license for it.

In the late 1800s and early 20th century, neighboring distillery Glenlivet also owned Balmenach but ownership changed again in the 1930s with Scottish Malt Distillers taking over. Balmenach was mothballed for a short time in the 1990s before it was purchased by Inver House Distillers, the current owner. Inver House uses Balmenach’s desirable distillate for its many blends. In fact, no single malts have ever been released by Inver House from Balmenach. Independent bottles of Balmenach are infrequent. Scotch Drinkers Only is excited to bring you this single cask single malt Balmenach from Creetown Distillers.
