Matured in a hogshead and finished in an ex-Manzanilla cask for over 2 years giving layers of apple, almonds and oak sweetness.

This ‘lesser seen’ Manzanilla cask leans into the softer side of sherry influence but definitely offers this lively Speysider a nutty sweetness and baked fruit quality.

About Auchroisk Distillery

Auchroisk Distillery - Speyside's Modern Classic

Auchroisk is one of Speyside’s youngest distilleries, yet despite its relative modernity, it plays a quietly vital role in the Scotch whisky world. Located in Banffshire, the distillery was commissioned in the early 1970s to meet a very practical need: produce high-quality malt whisky for blending.

The site was chosen after the discovery of Dorie’s Well, a spring whose exceptionally pure water resembled that used at the nearby Glen Spey Distillery. Construction began in 1972 under the ownership of Justerini & Brooks, the blenders behind the iconic J&B brand, and production officially began in 1974.

Auchroisk was built with modern efficiency in mind. Its functional architecture and high-volume layout reflect the priorities of the whisky boom era: reliability, scale, and consistency. Today it boasts a production capacity of several million liters of pure alcohol annually, making it a cornerstone of Diageo’s blending operations.

The distillery’s malt continues to be a major component in classic blended Scotches, especially J&B Rare, where its clean, malty profile supports the whisky’s balanced, approachable character. Some of its spirit may also appear in other Diageo blends, including variations within the broader Johnnie Walker range.

Although most of Auchroisk’s output is dedicated to blends, it has appeared as a single malt on rare occasions, as seen with the release of the Auchroisk 10-Year-Old as part of Diageo’s Flora & Fauna series. Since then, its limited official bottlings have included rare entries in the Rare Malts and Special Releases collections, showcasing older and more distinctive expressions.

Because official releases are infrequent, Auchroisk enjoys a steady presence in the independent bottling scene from single casks aged in a range of cask types to special selections that highlight unique maturation profiles.
