Matured for 10 years in a Refill Ex-Sherry Butt and bottled at 52.0% ABV, this release showcases the distillery's elegant Highland spirit enhanced by the subtle influence of well-seasoned sherry oak. Rather than dominating the whisky, the refill sherry butt adds layers of dried fruit, baking spice, and gentle nuttiness while allowing Tullibardine's creamy malt character to shine.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Dried apricot, golden raisins, toasted almonds, honey, vanilla, and baked apple are joined by hints of orange peel, cinnamon, and polished oak.

Palate

Creamy and beautifully balanced with flavors of malt biscuits, toffee, dried figs, milk chocolate, roasted hazelnuts, baked orchard fruits, and gentle sherry spice. The refill cask lends elegance rather than intensity.

Finish

Long, soft, and warming with lingering notes of dried fruit, cocoa, sweet malt, toasted oak, and delicate baking spices.

Why We Bottled It

We sourced this Tullibardine cask several years ago because we believed in the quality of the distillery's spirit and knew it had the potential to become something special. After drawing one of our first samples, we felt the whisky needed a little more richness and complexity to reach its full potential.

We made the decision to re-rack the whisky into a refill ex-Sherry hogshead soon after purchasing the cask. It was a deliberate choice, not to overwhelm the spirit with heavy sherry influence, but to gently enhance Tullibardine's naturally creamy Highland character with subtle notes of dried fruit, toasted nuts, and warming spice.

Over the following years, we sampled the cask regularly, watching the whisky evolve until the balance was exactly where we wanted it. The refill sherry hogshead added depth and texture while allowing the distillery's elegant malt and orchard fruit character to remain at the forefront.

We also wanted this release to reflect an important part of our philosophy: exceptional single cask whisky should be approachable. Tullibardine is a respected Highland distillery, and this 10-year-old delivers outstanding quality, character, and value without an intimidating price tag. With an outturn of just 60 bottles, it's also one of the most limited whiskies in the entire Scotch Drinkers Only collection.

Tullibardine Distillery - A Highland Revival Story

Tullibardine or “Tulli,” as it’s often called in the industry is a striking distillery site located just off the A9 between Perth and Stirling, in the town of Blackford. While the distillery itself was established in 1949 by renowned architect William Delme-Evans, the site’s history stretches back much further.

Its predecessor, a local brewery, famously recorded the first known purchase of beer in Scotland in 1488, when King James IV stopped for a cask of ale following his coronation. The king was so impressed that in 1503 he granted the brewery the first Royal Charter, one of the earliest marks of royal approval in Scottish brewing history.

Set at the foot of the Ochil Hills, Tullibardine benefits from an exceptional water source. The Danny Burn filters through layers of basalt and sandstone before reaching the distillery, contributing to the purity of the spirit. These same hills are also home to Highland Spring, one of Scotland’s most recognizable bottled waters, an indication of just how prized this water source is.

Throughout the 20th century, Tullibardine changed ownership multiple times, eventually landing with Whyte & Mackay, who closed the distillery in 1994. Prior to its shutdown, Tullibardine was known as a floral and nutty malt, primarily used in blends.

The turning point came in 2003, when new ownership revived the distillery with a clear focus on building a premium single malt brand. Faced with aging stock that had spent too long in tired casks, they undertook an ambitious re-casking program, revitalizing the spirit through carefully selected wood.

That transformation defines Tullibardine today. Now owned by French conglomerate, Picard Vins & Spiritueux, the distillery produces a range of single malts across different cask types and age statements. The modern profile leans toward bright fruit, softness, and elegance, with the heavier nuttiness of the past largely replaced.
